BACKGROUND

This beautiful house has been welcoming guests since 1370. A friendly, spacious and relaxing place to mix with friends and family. Hidden behind a stone wall so you can switch off, but in the centre of a village and a few minutes walk from a shop and a great pub serving food. It has been in our family for the last 40 years. The house was gifted to the Church in 1919 as a permanent memorial to the loss of their son during the First World War in 1915.

The White Swan pub in Ovingham is just a couple of minutes walk away with a beer garden and great food and drink. It gets very busy, so be sure to book in advance.

It is around 9.3 miles from the MetroCentre and the Utilita Arena is 11.2 miles. Newcastle train station is 11.2 miles away. The nearest airport is Newcastle International Airport, which is 11.2 miles from the accommodation.

     What a house! Just incredible. Everything you could possibly want, stunning location and appointed to the highest standard with little things that so many other air bnbs overlook upgraded to make the most luxury experience. Cannot fault and will 100% be back again! Neil was also incredibly attentive and nothing was too much trouble when asking questions. The pizzas from the pub were also amazing! Incredible host, fantastic house, highly recommended!

     We have just returned from my sisters hen weekend and had the best stay at Neil’s place. The photos of this house do not do it justice. The garden and the hot tub were a great bonus and the amount of space inside the house is unbelievable. Everyone commented on how lovely the house was and some will be looking to rebook here in the future. Thanks for a great stay.

     An amazing weekend, a great space for a large family. We were lucky enough to have a sunny weekend and were able to make use of the gorgeous (secure) grounds playing garden games and using many of the outdoor seating options. The house was spotless and we felt the photos online didn’t do the size of the rooms justice, plenty of space for those who needed time away from been social. The kitchen allowed space for games and cooking for a large group. Plenty of storage and fridge space and plenty of glassware, cups etc.We loved the hot tub and the playroom was a great space the little ones could play with their toys etc.Pleasantly surprised how little the noise travelled around the house meaning the children up early didn’t wake the people sleeping in. Recommend the White Swan for food plus fantastic service. A walkable playground was wonderful too. The best large family house I’ve travelled too. Highly recommend and we hope to return especially if we can order the weather again.

     The house is huge, lots of bedrooms and spacious living areas, so it was perfect for our group of 12. The garden is large & well maintained. The kitchen was well equipped with the bonus of a large coffee machine. We visited Tynemouth & Belsay Hall - both easy to get to from the house. The village location is lovely and it’s only a short walk to the pub.

     A fabulous big old house with lots of character. The hot tub, garden & conservatories all helped to provide a relaxing few days. We made the most of the well equipped kitchen to cook our meals and then walked them off along the riverside walks :-) An excellent choice of accommodation for groups.

      recommends stayed for my friends 30th birthday, with 20 other quests and what a fabulous weekend we have had! house is stunning, everything you need is there and if things get a bit loud there is plenty of places to escape to. Surrounding areas is beautiful and I especially liked the little pub up the street, such friendly staff and tasty food. 
I have already recommended this to friends and would definitely return 😊

    recommends A fantastic place for a large gathering of friends or family. Immaculately clean and lovely and warm on our arrival during cold stormy January. The kitchen-diner is the perfect place for everyone to gather, it’s really well equipped and very warm and welcoming. The house is huge and there are lots of places for sub-groups to gather to chat or watch TV. We pre-ordered a meal at the local pub where we were made very welcome. Loads to do in the area if you can drag yourself away from the house!

    recommends The Old Vicarage, Ovingham was a perfect setting for our extended family. We stayed for two nights but would have loved to stay longer. 
This amazing house enabled three generations to get together communally, whilst also having space and privacy. The kitchen, dining room was a wonderful central hub for all and different sitting rooms gave homely space for different groups. The bedrooms were large and comfortable, perfect for children and adults alike.  
We are hoping to arrange a return visit to make more memories with family and enjoy even more of the house, and local area.

    recommends Fantastic house and highly recommended for group team building! We were a group of 9 individuals using the property for a 3 night team development trip and could have stayed longer. The variety of reception rooms and outdoors space offered ample options for group work, and the perfectly positioned screen beside the dining table was ideal for the more ‘serious’ sessions. Well appointed, well thought out and well equipped, and the hosts were very helpful throughout. We have already booked to return next year.

    recommends I booked the old vicarage for my sisters Hen Party and it certainly didn’t disappoint. There was 18 of us in total and there was so much room for us all. Especially in the kitchen area where we practically spent most of our weekend. The grounds around the house were so lovely too! Neil was fantastic and I definitely recommend The Old Vicarage to anyone looking for an amazing stay. We are already looking at booking again in the future for a family getaway.

       Three generations, including baby and dog, disappeared onto the wonderful time capsule that is the Old Vicarage for four whole days, during which barely a cross word was said. All needs were catered for [especially space and 'time out'] with luxury guaranteed, a cavernous 'manorial' kitchen and dining room, patio and barbecue, lovely gardens and hot tub.
For any architectural archeologist it is a wonder fest with 500 years and more of history all around and lovely walks from the doorstep. The house is rather like the Tardis, bigger on the inside than outside, and easily absorbed those oldies who wanted to focus on family history to do so without intrusion from indifferent middle generation members who played games, cooked amazing meals, went to the pub and enjoyed the hot tub.
Oh and the owners are very nice too!

     What a wonderful stay we had at the Old Vicarage in Ovingham. A stunning and spacious house with an attentive host who helped quickly with any questions. We enjoyed the hot tub which is in a beautiful garden. The area was great with a good local play park for the kids nearby. We had a brilliant time and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place!

☺ Just back from The Old Vicarage.   We have had the best weekend.  We were a family of 20.  And 5 dogs.  We had the best time from start to finish.  House and grounds both beautiful.   Very relaxing and comfortable especially with all the dogs.  House was huge.  It was at its full capacity with us and there was lots of space.  Made great use of hot tub.  We done a mix or cooking and ordering in.  White Swan pub even done take away for us all on the Sunday.   They were lovely.   Neil could not have been any more helpful.  I messaged on numerous occasions and he got back almost instantly and helped with everything I had to ask.  Even kind enough to post something back to us that we left behind.  Wouldn't hesitate to book again.  Just brilliant.   Thanks again Neil.

☺ The house is amazing. Extremely well equipped. The photos don't do it justice. So much space inside and outside. Twenty of us ranging from 5 years to nearly 90. The welcome pack was a lovely touch. Everyone had a fantastic weekend. The kitchen is definitely the heart of the home. Neil is a great host. Great weather meant we could use the gardens too. Looking forward to coming back.

Verified An exceptional property - would recommend to anyone!
☺ I would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone. We were a large group and the house gave everyone plenty of space. The bedrooms are all spread out nicely and were all good sizes - some of them were huge with lovely views onto the grounds/gardens and view of the river through the trees. The gardens are really well maintained and even at this time of year were lovely and of course completed with the hot tub! The kitchen and dining area are particularly great and were ideal for our large group to be able to eat together. There was everything you could possible need and even 2 dishwashers to cope with our numbers. Everything has been very well thought out and Neil was a great host and answered any questions that I had. Check in was easy and a large parking area as well. Ovingham itself is a lovely village, complete with a pub and very easy access into Newcastle - about 25 minutes by car but there is also a bus stop outside the property. 
Would love to stay here again!

Verified You hope for a great weekend but here we got perfection and the happiest of memories.
☺ This is by far the best house we have stayed in - as a large family (multiple generations) we need somewhere that can sleep at least 12.  Usually some of us end up compromising so we can all be in the same property, other times we have had to hire 2 or 3 cottages and then we lose the feeling of being all together, but not here - this whole house and its grounds are ideal for a large group and made a birthday weekend one of the happiest times we have all shared.
The living spaces are perfect for spending time together or finding a quiet spot in which to relax.  We stayed during the FIFA World Cup so we had one room that was a TV lounge with the matches being show, another was a quiet room and the kitchen/diner was the main 'everyone together' space.
All the bedrooms are very spacious, with some being simply huge.  Having a king size bedroom on the ground floor was ideal for those who don't deal with stairs too well.  Likewise, having a couple of rooms right 'up top' gave our teenagers a sense of their own space.  In fact, each and everyone was wowed by their rooms.  There are plenty of bathrooms, it never felt like people were having to wait their turn and all were very well appointed.
The kitchen facilities are 1st class - fully loaded Sky TV, high end coffee machine, American style fridge/freezer, plenty of glasses, crockery etc (so we never felt we HAD to always wash up before the next meal) and despite it being cold outside, the house is lovely and warm and welcoming.  Naturally we gravitated to the kitchen whcih comfortably coped with all of us.
The gardens and grounds are wonderful, lots of great views over the River Tyne, a fab hot tub (which was the highlight for quite a few of our party) and outdoor seating and dining furniture.  We will certainly like to come in the summer and enjoy the outdoors more.
